Mother & Daughter Commission
After finishing University in June, I had a long, quiet period with no commission work, and the lack of motivation to pick up a paintbrush grew and grew. That was until the 1st October, 2016.
I checked my emails and excitedly found a request through my website; a client who asked if I would illustrate a card for her mother. I was happy to see that my website was worth while after being tempted to take it down due to the lack of interest. Of course, I accepted the request and my client sent me the details of the project.

The project included creating characters of my client and her mother from photographs she sent me, and eventually using them to recreate a specific scenes which are loving memories her and her mother share. So I began bringing the two characters to life.

Using my watercolour and colour pencil techniques, outlined with a calligraphy pen to neaten and finish the images, I sent the character designs to my client, anticipating her response as I had not received feedback from my work since university.
She Loved Them!
She payed me for my time and asked if she could send me a specific composition sketch to work from as she wanted the scene to be as accurate as possible so it can be instantly recognised by her mother. I thought this was absolutely fine, however it took two months to receive the sketch which put the project on hold.
The first image was to include my client getting her hair cut by her mother who was using a piece of paper to keep her hair straight (very creative). I began drawing out the sketch last week, sending the roughs to my client and receiving valuable feedback with every development. I have now sent my client a rough which she has approved and I will soon begin painting.

My client has now requested a second illustration which includes the same idea, but another memory. This is to be an ongoing project with many different scenarios. I am very excited to be chosen to do this!
