Jellybeanj Christmas Cards!

So as you might know, I run my own small business called JellybeanJ Illustrations where I apply my punny designs onto cards, cushions and hopefully will be expanding to T-shirts and more!

My most recent additions were the four christmas card designs.

Back in November, I held a competition on my Social Media sites to see who could come up with the best winter themed puns! After lots of pun-tastic entries I decided to choose Marcus Tripp's entry from my Facebook page; 'Merry Christmas and a Hippo New Year!' which was the first of my four designs.

Being a huge pug-lover, I naturally had to do the classic 'Bah-Ham-Pug' suggested to me by my lovely boyfriend who is also a pug-fanantic. 'Merry Christmouse' & 'Jelly Fishmas' were both self-thought puns which I thought were adorable and unique... until I realised they've both been done before... but not in the pun-tastic Jellybeanj way!

Before I started, I knew each design needed to have a christmassy element rather than just the animal which I have done in my previous designs. After brain storming various christmassy objects and themes I gave each of the animals something festive;

Christmas lights tangled around the happy Hippo

Festive Jumper for the tiny grumpy Pug Pooch.

Naughty little mouse tucking into a large christmas pud.

And finally... someone had to have a santa hat!

It wasn't until after I had finished all the designs that I felt that I needed to add snow to them to make a more festive atmosphere.

And originally my Hippo was against a much duller background which, at the time, I had thought complemented the colours of the hippo, however next to the other colourful designs, I realised how un-christmassy it actually looked - not something to proudly put on your mantlepiece! But after choosing the baby pink background, it looked much happier!

I loved filling my evenings with these designs, especially as at this point I was still working in my boring office job! These happy christmas characters were a happy escape to the lead up of Christmas and I had a successful time selling them online and even ad a friend take some to Salisbury Christmas Markets where they proved very popular :)
