This project was the first children's book I worked on and became the first step for my love of illustrating narratives. Written by my marvelous mother, Louise Johnson, the story is about a little zebra who feels different to his long legged giraffe friends.

I experimented with a wide range of media and discovered my love of combining traditional and digital media. Using different printing techniques to make savanna patterns, I then scanned and using Photoshop, manipulated them into the line drawings I'd created with my Waccom and used colour to bring them all together. It was a completely new technique for me and quickly becomes my go to technique these days.
I spent three months fully exploring the project, from story boarding and character designs to page layouts and experimenting with media, and enjoyed every moment as I had so much freedom to make the story my own through illustration.
