Wedding Cushion Commission

Over the summer, I had a commission to design an illustration to go onto a cushion. The client was very specific about the image they wanted; A romantic scene of a lake in Canada which was the meeting place of her two friends who got married. The cushion was to be wedding gift.

Funnily enough, I had just returned from travelling around the Canadian Rockies for a month, so I had a great sense of how beautiful the scenery should be. After coming up with a nice composition and a warm, romantic colour pallet I decided to work digitally rather than my traditional water colour style. I find that I have a lot more control when working digitally, and I can be much more specific and detailed. It does make me miss the freedom and playfulness of watercolour though.

I sent the digital copy to the client before sending it off to be printed. She loved the design and couldn't wait for the cushion to arrive.
Unfortunately the delivery company never delivered the cushion! It had been 2 weeks and the cushion had still not arrived to my clients house in Brighton. I sent away for a new cushion straight away. When she finally received the cushion, I was so happy to see how much she loved it! After an angry letter from both me and my client, the delivery company apologised and paid me compensation which covered the cost of the cushion and postage so thankfully I didn't lose any money.
Another week later and the original cushion... cushion no.1... arrived back at my house! Along with a note saying it had been wrongfully delivered to a house in Brighton - four doors down from my client!
My wonderful client thought the whole thing was hilarious and asked if she could have the original cushion too and paid me again- plus a tip! Bless!
Later, I posted a picture of the finished cushion on my Instagram account, and strangely enough, the Canadian newlyweds found it! Their comments were so lovely and I'm so happy my designs have gone international!
